God made a covenant with David. First, God promised to make a house for David. He also promised that when David was no longer alive, he would have one of his descendants establish a kingdom forever. God promises that David’s throne will be established forever. God had a special plan for David and his descendants. From the line of David, the one who would be King of Kings and Lord of Lords would come. Jesus was the fulfillment of that promise made to David. God promises on the one hand that Solomon, David’s son, will reign in David’s place and will build a house for God. God had promised that the throne of David would be established forever. So they came to see that a son of David must be coming who would fulfill the conditions of the covenant, sit on David’s throne, and rule forever.
