The word for spirit, breath and wind in the Hebrew language is ruach. The New Testament Greek word Pneuma is used for spirit or soul and for breath. God breathes life into Adam and Jesus breathes the Spirit into his disciples. Then the LORD God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living soul. This verse is foundational, showing God’s direct act of giving life and the creation of the first human.
