To reign means to exercise dominion, influence, authority, and governmental responsibility. Biblical reigning is therefore more than having money, popularity, or social influence. A person can be wealthy and still be dominated by fear. A person can be successful professionally and still be controlled by destructive habits. A person can have influence and still lack spiritual authority. True reigning begins with the believer’s position in Christ. The believer’s Christian experience is not designed to be one of continual defeat and helplessness. Through Jesus Christ, believers have access to an abundance of grace and the gift of righteousness. These realities establish the foundation for living victoriously and exercising godly influence. But reigning is not simply about having authority. It is about understanding that authority, submitting to Christ, developing spiritual maturity, and using what God has entrusted to us responsibly. The believer must learn to reign first over the things within. Reign over fear. Reign over sinful desires. Reign over destructive habits. Reign over negative mindsets. Reign through faith. Reign through prayer. Reign through God’s Word. Then allow that internal government to become external Kingdom influence. The ultimate purpose of reigning is not personal fame or superiority. It is that Christ may be represented accurately wherever we are placed. We have not been called merely to survive. We have been called to become vessels through which God’s Kingdom is expressed.
