One of the greatest desires a believer can have is to become a vessel through which God accomplishes His purposes on the earth. However, being used by God involves more than having a gift, possessing knowledge, or demonstrating spiritual abilities. It requires a life that is continually surrendered to God and prepared for His divine assignments. Many people desire the public manifestation of God’s power without fully appreciating the private process of spiritual formation. Yet, throughout Scripture, we see examples of individuals whose lives were shaped through seasons of waiting, testing, discipline, and preparation before they stepped into significant assignments. Desiring to be used by God is a good thing. However, desire alone does not automatically qualify a person for every assignment God may have for them. There is a difference between wanting to fulfil a divine purpose and submitting to the process required to prepare for it. Becoming a person God can use is a journey of preparation, spiritual growth, obedience, and faithful service. The desire to fulfil God’s purposes is valuable, but it must be accompanied by a willingness to submit to the process of becoming spiritually mature. This includes developing a consistent life of prayer, studying Scripture, cultivating godly character, and remaining faithful through seasons of waiting. The story of Joseph reminds us that difficult circumstances do not necessarily mean the end of God’s purposes. The example of Jesus reminds us of the importance of private communion with the Father. The instruction in Second Timothy reminds us that a vessel must be prepared for the Master’s use. A believer cannot claim to desire God’s purposes while consistently refusing the responsibilities that come with serving others. Obedience may require courage, sacrifice, humility, and the willingness to step outside personal comfort. At other times, it may require patience and remaining faithful in an ordinary assignment.
