Summary of “The Midnight Cry” by Bro Gbile Akanni 

In Matthew 25:1-13 Jesus began to teach and explain in continuation of chapter 24, as response to man’s questions about the general happenings, questions about signs and signals concerning the end of time. He began by giving certain instructions, painting different pictures just to make man take heed lest he be deceived against God’s divine agenda, and things to be expected especially His second coming and the challenges forthcoming.

These virgins are believers who have decided not to walk in darkness, who understand the implications of moving without light, who understand the benefit of moving with the spirit (light) of God. So they arrived with their lamps, not leaving them behind because God’s word is a lamp, the light, the illumination, the sight, the inspiration, the insight unto the feet- to guide them through the crooked paths, to provide suiting relief and comfort, a replacement to discomfort and dissatisfaction.

These were prepared believers who went forth, out of compromise, out of the spirit of satan, out of worldliness, out of the pleasures of life, without minding whose ox is gored but focusing on their expectation and clear desire which was to meet the lord their master the bridegroom with a sense of haste and commitment. This is irrespective of the discouragement and distractions from people who mattered to them at that time.

The tarrying of the bridegroom is what has exposed the weakness and foolishness of the other five virgins which everyone today is capitalising on.

Most unbelievers today are in the set of those who received the life of Christ way back, who as it were, tore their worldly cloths, burnt their worldly wears, discarded their worldly possessions, denounced their worldly friends, left biological families, left businesses and investments so as not to invest in vain, knowing that the Lord’s coming was at hand and all would be vanity upon vanity, against all odds, against all compromise, against all beckoning, with the message that the master Jesus was soon coming. Today they have gone back into the world simply because the preached saviour Jesus is yet to come, even till today.

While some feel deceived in its highest capacity, some feel depressed, some feel infuriated, others feel Christianity is either a joke or a scam. But what happened? Something got finished in the process of waiting, something got exhausted while waiting. They ran short of the excitement of God, the fire in them got quenched.

But when the cry of revival sounds, it will awaken all into the excitement of the master, it will call all men back to consciousness of duty and responsibility. It will be a wake up call to all and sundry. But you won’t be able to meet the Lord with a shared lamp. It is an individual race. Else, the wise virgins would have shared their lamp with the foolish virgins. It is an individual race. You won’t be able to perch on another person’s light. Your illumination is for you alone while another’s is for him.

Fellowship light is not always enough. Fellowship light only encourages environmental believers. Because you don’t have a personal light, when you leave, you walk in darkness. Kindle your light.

This parable of the ten virgins goes further to explain in details how the word of God (the light) is a communication and interpersonal interactive tool between man and God.
