SCRIPTURE: MATTHEW 3:5-11
Jesus Christ came to earth to do a proper and complete work, and so as a Christian there are certain things that God expects us to do since He has also done something for us which is sending His only begotten son to die for us so we would be free from sin. Matthew 3:6 tells us that the people who came for the baptism came confessing their sins firs of all, also the bible has stated clearly that whosoever covereth his sins would not prosper, but whosoever confesses and forsakes will obtain mercy.
Therefore, the first thing one needs to do to get rid of sin completely and repent or rededicate his/her life to God is to confess. so even though you repent and don’t confess your sins out rightly it is only partial because the devil will have room to always come back and tempt you. This now leads us to another key point which is how to handle our confession in other for it not to bounce back on us again.
The first thing to note is that sin only thrives only when it is covered so no matter how you pray for God to forgive your sin whenever you sin without you confessing(mentioning) it you are rather hiding sin than uprooting it and sin enjoys secrecy in other to grow.
When Jesus comes into your life he removes that old life and everything has become new as clearly stated in 2 Corinthians 5:17, so if you cover some of the old life without confessing everything you are only nursing it and someday it will blow out. 1 John: 1:9 (AMP) tells us that it is only by confessing our sins that we would be forgiven and in confessing we need to mention every little sin we have committed by its name even if it means you calling your accomplices name, that’s the only way God will know that it is a practical and concrete repentance.
You discover that many Christians keep on repenting every time and you begin to wonder why it’s so, the simple truth is that the Christian has not confessed/mentioned his sins, he is only praying amidst and saying God forgive me for my sins that I have committed and has forgotten that God is wondering what this his son is talking about.
That is because the person has not mentioned exactly the name of the sin(s). lest we forget God has told us in the bible that he is going to supply all our needs in His riches and glory but you must mention exactly what you want so also it apples in repentance and the forgiveness of sins.
When you have out rightly confessed the sin is behind you and God will forgive you and put everything behind you and He will also help you not to go back to it again because light and darkness cannot co-exist.
Matthew 3:8 clearly states that the way you live indicates that you have really turned from sin and have turned unto God that’s what the bible is referring to as fruit of repentance and it means when you do a destiny act that immediately establishes that the things you used to do, you do them no more.
We will further look at what are the fruits of repentance which is the result of the confession of your sin and repentance; the first is that change of life that makes you walk away from the things you used to do before and it is pertinent to understand that you cannot wait to stop the sin you were committing in other to follow God, that’s because nobody can be saved by trying to save himself.
The fruit of repentance is what you are doing because you are already changed. Repentance is something that has happened within you and the change that God himself has brought to your life as you gave your life to him, but we now need to follow up with what He has done inside of you with the practical fruit of repentance and repentance is not just mere verbal talks, it is an action (and a verb) so what God desires is for us to go forth and bring practical actions that will prove what God has already done in your life. As from today I urge you to go out and look for that practical action to establish that you have repented don’t wait for it to come.

Where ever genuine confession has not taken place it simply means that you are covering sin and it will stay with you, the bible states it Isaiah 59:1-2 (NIV) that the Lords arm is not shortened that it cannot save, and goes further in verse 2 to say that your sins have hidden His face from you so that He will not hear.
Therefore, the only thing you need to do is to expose its root with the word of God, be bold to say it out loud to everyone that you are a new man in Christ what you used to do before that is sin you don’t do them no more.
Be bold to declare it to people whom you used to sin with and God will continue to help you to be steadfast in Him because you have taken a stand for Him and you boldly confess it to people constantly as stated in Matthew 10:32 that “everyone who confesses me before men, I will also confess him before my father”.
Even though you are having problems confessing some things to people, just write it down boldly and hang it somewhere, a place you will always see it and it will continue reminding you about it so much so that when someone comes and you cannot tell the person out rightly, you point the person to where you have hung it for the person to read.
If you don’t make a practical confession of what God has done in your life, and bring forth the fruits of repentance you will always be compromising for the bible states in Romans 10:10 that “with the heart a person believes which results in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, which results in salvation”.
When you are with Christ you always need to be bold to tell the truth that you are a new man and the old man is dead now it is only when you bring out that kind of confession will it in turn bring salvation to you and establishes what God has done in your life and then it gives you the basis to bring forth the fruits of repentance.
As you read this I want you to think, what are the areas you normally fall, check to see if you can pin point them. You will know that God has worked in some areas but check and clear out the refuse that is left by you doing something practical to show the true fruit of repentance God has deposited in your life.
Don’t forget 1 John 1:9 is encouraging you admit your sins and confess it, He is faithful and just and will forgive your sins and cleanse you.
