Mercy is compassion in motion. He explains that while compassion is a feeling (potential energy), mercy is the active expression of that feeling (kinetic energy) that alleviates pain and provides relief. Mercy is described as a spiritual force that can correct a person’s path even when they have made wrong decisions. It ensures that you arrive at your destiny despite your errors or innocent mistakes. To understand mercy, one must contrast the nature of God (who is intrinsically love and compassion) with the nature of man (who is limited and often undeserving). Two Dimensions of Mercy: Pardon: Withholding punishment from those who deserve it (forgiveness of sins). Relief: Alleviating distress, pain, and providing comfort for the weary. Mercy is God’s system of advantage that bridges the gap between human effort and divine results.
