God is a covenant-keeping God. A covenant is a higher type of contract usually between two parties, with each party bringing something to the table. The agreement to do the things you have committed to do is very strong. But in a covenant, one party may be much bigger than the other (like with powerful nations with smaller nations). God is all-powerful. And now, with the new covenant, he only asks that we come to Him. Men may break commitments, but God never breaks his commitment. When God established his covenant with Noah (Genesis 6:18), he asked that he step into the ark. And after the flood (Genesis 9:9-13), the rainbow was a reminder of God’s covenant to never again destroy the earth with flood. It was the token of God’s covenant with Noah.
