Jesus described His followers as the light of the world. Light has a nature: it shines. A lamp that remains covered cannot fulfil its purpose. In the same way, a believer who has encountered Christ but refuses to allow that reality to influence his environment is not fully expressing the purpose of that light. The believer is not the source of the light in the ultimate sense. But the believer becomes a vessel through which that light can be seen. This means Christianity should produce visible evidence. There should be something about the believer’s character, conduct, wisdom, love, service, faith, and spiritual influence that causes people to recognize the reality of Christ. One of the strongest ways to extend your influence is to help another person become useful. If everything depends on you, your influence has a natural limit. But if you train others, your influence can continue through them. Paul instructed Timothy to commit what he had learned to faithful people who could teach others also. This gives us a powerful multiplication principle: Receive, Develop, Teach , Release , Multiply. A believer who raises others can extend influence beyond personal capacity.
