Hebrews 12: 1-2
1. ‘‘wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses let us lay aside every weight and the sin which doth so easily beset us and let us run with patience the race that is set before us
2. Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross despising the shame and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God’’
We need to take note that we are not the first in the race, many have gone ahead. They have ran race. They have already established both a pattern and a standard.
We know their stories and biographies, how they ran and where they ended it. Now, even though the race is peculiar to us, we are not the pioneers. Pioneers, they can do things as they like, they can create a path as it is convenient for them because they are the first to have seen such.
But we are not the pioneers or the beginners of this race. It was God’s grace that brought us into it, so it is then incumbent that we run the race according to the rule.
The Bible says an athlete who runs in a race cannot win the prize unless he obeys the rules.
We have come into a generation where people have mistakenly thought that they could design and rearrange the faith as it suits them. It is a very unfortunate mistake. This race that is set before us, people who ran it jeopardized their lives and have fitted into the rules, standard and purposes that God has for it.
So it is important to know that though you are unique, though God is dealing with you personally, you have no right to effect or arrange or add or subtract from that which is already established. If it is the race to glory, then it had been set.
Since God is not a respecter of persons he cannot use a standard for men that ran the race and jeopardize their lives and then in our case short measure it. It will be unrighteousness for God to do such.
Therefore, we must run the race that has been set before us with patience and perseverance according to the rule and standard of God. Some of the principles are not convenient for us but necessity is laid on you to comply if you must end up well.
