The family is an institution by God to fulfill specific purposes. The Family is the union of comparative parties with communion to execute the plan of God. Marriage was not established to be a relationship between a superior man and an inferior woman. They are both made in the Image of God to fulfill different purpose. The Human perception of the weight and value of the purpose and responsibility attached to a gender made people assume one gender is greater than the other. The curse as the consequence for the fall of man in the garden of Eden marked the beginning of the deterioration in position of the woman as compared to Man.
