One of the greatest dangers in the Christian life is becoming spiritually inactive while remaining physically busy. A person can attend church, participate in religious activities, and still lack the spiritual alertness required to fulfil God’s purpose. The call to spiritual awakening is therefore a call to arise from spiritual carelessness, recognise the urgency of God’s purpose, and become intentional about one’s relationship with Him. To awake means to become conscious, alert, and responsive after a period of sleep or inactivity. In the spiritual sense, awakening involves recognising one’s spiritual condition and responding to God’s call with renewed seriousness. A believer can become spiritually passive through distractions, excessive attachment to worldly concerns, prayerlessness, disobedience, or a lack of commitment to spiritual growth. Spiritual slumber can prevent believers from recognising what God expects of them. When a person becomes spiritually careless, important responsibilities can be neglected. Prayer may become irregular, the study of Scripture may lose priority, and sensitivity to God’s instructions may diminish. The danger is that spiritual inactivity can gradually become a normal way of life. Prayer is one of the essential disciplines of a spiritually alert believer. Through prayer, Christians maintain fellowship with God, seek His direction, intercede for others, and develop dependence on His strength. A prayerless life can gradually become a life dominated by human reasoning, personal strength, and limited spiritual understanding. Another important aspect of spiritual awakening is returning to the Word of God. The Scriptures provide the foundation for understanding God’s character, His instructions, and His expectations for believers. Without a consistent relationship with Scripture, Christians can become vulnerable to confusion, false teachings, and decisions that contradict God’s principles. The Christian life requires more than religious participation. It requires a living relationship with God, a commitment to His Word, consistency in prayer, spiritual discipline, and a willingness to fulfil the responsibilities entrusted to us. The call to awake is a call to leave spiritual carelessness behind and embrace a life of purpose, growth, and obedience. Every believer must recognise that the time spent on earth is valuable and that spiritual responsibilities should not be neglected. Click on the links below to listen to this ser…
